MADISON, WI (WSAU) — An interesting name was found at the top of Governor Tony Evers’ list of donors from the latest quarter.
Producer Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw were among the 31 donors who contributed $20,000 to Evers’ campaign checkbook, the most allowed by an individual under state law.
Spielberg is known for having a hand in hit films such as E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Indiana Jones, and the Jurassic Park film series. He also has numerous television projects to his credit too including the recent streaming series Halo, which was loosely based on the characters from the popular X Box video game series. The couple has been known to support Democratic candidates nationwide.
Evers has raised over $10 million in the first half of the year. While he does not have a primary opponent for this August, the general election in November is expected to be an expensive one as he fights for reelection.
In the Republican primary construction mogul, Tim Michels has spent nearly $8 million so far, much of that coming from his own pocket. Former Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch raised over $3.5 million.
Some pundits have estimated that as much as $100 million could be spent on this year’s Governor’s race.
