GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fond du Lac man is facing child neglect and drug charges after allegedly bringing two kids, ages 4 and 16, with him to a drug deal for two kilos of cocaine.
Juan Mendez, 36, was charged Friday with possession with intent to deliver cocaine, maintaining a drug trafficking place, and two counts of neglecting a child after the drug bust in a department store parking lot in De Pere on Thursday.
A $25,000 cash bond was set. He returns to court July 18.
According to the criminal complaint, police worked with a confidential source to buy two kilograms of cocaine from Mendez in a $54,000 deal. Evidence seized included two bricks of cocaine.
Two children were in Mendez’s vehicle when it was stopped by police. The complaint does not state the relationship between Mendez and the children, but the last initial for both is “M.”
“JUAN MENDEZ brought A.M. (a four year old) and M.A.M-M. (a 16 year old) with him when he was going to sell 2 kilograms of cocaine. This large amount of cocaine carries exchanged a danger to not only the parties involved but all of those present. A four-year-old would be in extreme danger during the drug deal,” the complaint states.
The teen was also arrested, while Child Protective Services took custody of the 4-year-old.
