GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Schreiber Foods has established a full tuition scholarship program for eligible students of color at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.
The Schreiber Multicultural Scholarship will support two eligible NWTC students in their pursuit of two-year associate degrees.
Eligible applicants must be accepted into the Manufacturing Operations Management, Business Management or Electro-Mechanical Technology programs.
The scholarship stems from efforts to address a lack of diversity in the manufacturing industry.
As of April, there were nearly a million manufacturing job openings across the country, according to the National Association of Manufacturing. While this may be a record high for the industry, manufacturing is projected to grow even more within the decade.
By 2030, almost four million positions are projected to be open. However, it’s expected that over half of those jobs would remain unfilled if the industry remains as it is today.
Vice President of Talent Development and chief Diversity Officer at Schreiber Foods, Jenene Calloway, explained that Schreiber believes the scholarship will be a potential solution.
Promoting a diverse workforce is “not only better for our partners and communities, but it also helps our business grow and makes our workforce more representative of the customers we serve,” said Calloway.
Applications for the Schreiber Multicultural Scholarship are available through July 20. The two recipients will be notified by Aug. 5.
