GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay Fire Chief David Litton is calling it a career, and the decision makers are already working to decide who will replace him.
Police and Fire Commission Chair Rod Goldhahn says Litton won’t be easy to replace.
“We were very fortunate that he applied and that we chose him nine years ago. I think nine years is a pretty good career,” Goldhahn told WTAQ on Tuesday. “He worked with the other city department to gain the number one fire rating from the insurance industry, and at the time we were the first fire department in Wisconsin to have that designation.”
Litton intends to retire by the end of the year. A nationwide search will be held to replace him.
“That doesn’t mean that we don’t think we have internal candidates,” Goldhahn explained. “It just says we want to cast the widest net.”
The police and fire commission will meet this week to discuss the specifics on what kind of person they’re looking for to become the city’s next fire chief.
