DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — People love Door County, especially during the Fourth of July.
Levi Starks is visiting for the first time from St. Louis, saying he’s looking forward to some typical Independence Day activities.
“Mostly just barbecue, picnic, things like that,” said Starks. “When I was younger I was pretty big into fireworks, but I guess I grew out of it.”
Even during a busy weekend, Tim and Janelle Hoffman traveled to Egg Harbor to relax.
“Just taking it all in, the beauty that’s up here is just amazing,” said Tim Hoffman.

Still, they’re excited for what the weekend has in store.
“Just catching some fireworks one of the nights and I know that there’s a farmers market going on down the road right here,” said Janelle Hoffman. “So we’ll kind of see what happens and go with the flow.”
While Jen Rogers of Destination Door County doesn’t have an estimate of how many people will travel this weekend, she says the Fourth of July is the big kick off to their tourism season.
“If you’re looking for those last minute accommodations, give us a call,” Rogers said. “We are constantly getting calls from lodging with those last minute cancellations.”
Some holiday activities will be back for the first time since the pandemic.
“Fourth of July, we have parades happening in the morning at Bailey’s Harbor, and then in the afternoon, we have a parade at Egg Harbor,” said Rogers. “There’s fireworks happening July 3 in Egg Harbor and Maplewood.”
Visitors look forward to a relaxing long weekend.
