HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The American Farm Bureau says consumers will pay an average of $69.68 for 10 people this Independence Day. This includes cheeseburgers, pork chops, chicken breasts, homemade potato salad, strawberries, and ice cream.
HR Specialist at Woodman’s Kevin Rades says you can expect to pay more locally.
“Price wise I think everybody knows things continue to slowly move up which no one likes. We’re hoping that it’s not going to continue in that direction,” said Rades.
But he adds, Woodman’s stock is stable.
“The supply chain is actually starting to improve, customers are going to go out and when they go shopping here they are going to see less empty spots on the shelves which is a great sign, we all love that, it’s not perfect but it’s definitely going in the right direction,” said Rades.
With food prices the way they are some consumers say they are passing on certain items this 4th of July.
Green Bay resident Corenea Sangare says she’s buying things she needs, rather than items she wants.
“Anybody who wants the red meat or the ribs you are going to pay and for the ground beef too it’s going to be pricey,” Sangare said.
Brad Van Hemelryk, plant manager at Maplewood Meats, says that although prices have been higher, they have been changing this past week.
“It’s definitely higher but pretty stable but now we are starting to see a little bit of relief which is always a positive in any aspect,” said Van Hemelryk.
He also says prices of meat fluctuate into the fall.
“We typically do see some more relief historically after the 4th of July but then we do see another pickup as we go into Labor Day at the end of summer going into packer season,” said Van Hemelryk.
Last year, the average Fourth of July cookout cost $59.50
Factors include supply chain disruptions, inflation, and the war in Ukraine.
