The St. Louis Cardinals squared the big four game series with the Milwaukee Brewers and got back even atop the NL Central race with a 6-2 victory at American Family Field Tuesday night.
The Brewers turned to newly acquired Chi Chi Gonzalez for the spot start and he got hit hard in the first inning, giving up a pair of runs. Willy Adames got Milwaukee even with a two run blast, his 14th of the year, in the bottom of the first off Jack Flaherty. The Brewers couldn’t add on as Flaherty struggled with control walking five in his three innings of work. The St. Louis bullpen shut down Milwaukee the rest of the way as the Brewers managed just four hits on the night. Christian Yelich had one and Luis Urias was two for four.
Second baseman Nolan Gorman matched Milwaukee’s offense by himself, going four for four with two home runs and four runs batted in.
Both teams stand 39-31 with two more coming at Am Fam. Eric Lauer will face Adam Wainwright in game three of the series Wednesday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:35 PM with a 7:10 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
