FREEDOM, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Many business owners in Freedom had to throw away their food and buy all new product from the recent power outage.
“All the perishable products, meat produce, deli, bakery, frozen, dairy are no good after they lapse their period of time,” said Freedom Foods Owner Larry Westenberg.
They had to make tough decisions on what they can keep and unfortunately what has to go.
“Everything had to go, our smaller coolers, everything, we had milk going out, ice cream going out, I mean we just tossed everything cause you don’t want to take that chance of you know, it going bad,” said Donna Wall, owner of Mama D’s Café.
Although power has been restored, food shipments are backed up. Westenberg said it will be three or four days until they are back to normal in their store.
Despite the frustration owners are facing, Westenberg and Wall both say the community has been very helpful and patient throughout this time.
“The customers were very understanding and they are today too, we have a great community here,” said Wall.
“It’s a generous community, we are looking forward to getting back up and running and seeing them all back again,” said Westenberg.
Business owners hope everything will all be back to normal soon.
