The last High School state champions were crowned on Saturday at the WIAA Girls State Soccer Tournament at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
After a thrilling, but exhausting semifinal victory against McFarland Friday night, the Notre Dame Tritons advanced to the Division 3 title game. The squads played to a 1-1 draw through overtime with Notre Dame winning the penalty kick shootout 4-3. The Lady Tritons faced top ranked New Berlin Eisenhower in the championship game and were beaten convincingly 6-1. Lauren Hernandez, one of two Division 1 college recruits recorded a hat trick as the Lions captured their first state championship. Trailing 4-0 in the second half, Notre Dame’s only goal came from Stella Cuene. The Tritons finished runner-up for the second straight year.
Muskego won the Division 1 title, the program’s second, by beating defending champion Divine Savior Holy Angels 2-1. Muskego knocked out De Pere 2-0 in the semifinals.
Oregon completed an undefeated season by winning the Division 2 championship. Katelyn Studabaker scored the game’s only goal in the 1-0 victory over defending champion Whitefish Bay. Oregon finished 23-0-1 on the year.
In Division 4, Lake Country Lutheran won it’s first state title with a 3-1 victory over The Prairie School which knocked out Kiel in a shootout in the semifinals.
