GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – No Northeast Wisconsin counties were listed as having “high” COVID-19 spread on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s weekly update.
Last week, Brown and Door counties were listed in the “high” category. In that category, the CDC recommends everyone wear a mask in indoor public spaces.
This week, all area counties except Marinette and Florence were listed in the “low” category. Marinette and Florence counties were listed in the “medium” category, where the CDC recommends people at high risk take extra precautions.
Only four Wisconsin counties remained in the “high” category as state case numbers continued their retreat to levels not seen since early May.
The state Department of Health Services reported the seven-day average of new cases at 1,398, its lowest level since May 2. There were 1,355 new cases reported on Thursday.
Test positivity fell to a seven-day average of 11.4%, its lowest level since May 5.
Deaths crept up, however. With nine new deaths reported on Thursday, the seven-day average rose to six.
Since the pandemic began, Wisconsin has reported more than 1.5 million total cases and 1,398 deaths.
As of Friday, 64.5% of state residents had received at least one dose of vaccine, 61.3% had completed the initial vaccine series and 34.8% had received an additional or booster dose.
