The Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in 10 innings Wednesday night to earn a split in the four game series at Wrigley Field. Christopher Morel delivered the walk off sacrifice fly off Hoby Milner in the bottom of the 10th to win it.
For the second time in the four game series, the Brewers sent a pitcher to the mound in his major league debut. It was Ethan Small earlier in the week and Wednesday night, Jason Alexander made his big league debut after getting called up from Triple A Nashville. Alexander gave up a pair of runs in the first inning but was able to settle in, getting through 7, allowing 7 hits, three runs, just two of them earned with three walks and three strikeouts. He became just the 10th pitcher in Brewers history to make it through 7 innings in his first big league appearance.
The Brewers plated single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take the lead. Jace Peterson went 3 for 4 with an RBI, Kolton Wong and Omar Narvaez also knocked in runs but the Cubs got the game even and won it in extras.
The Brewers went 5-4 on the road trip and return home to start a 4 game series against the San Diego Padres at American Family Field. The Padres got swept out of Busch Stadium, falling 5-2 on Wednesday as the Cardinals have closed to within two games of Milwaukee (32-20) in the National League Central Division race. The Brewers will send Adrian Houser to the mound against Sean Manaea in the series opener. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:05 PM with a 6:40 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
