One good shutout deserves another. After blanking the Atlanta Braves 1-0 on a two hitter Monday night, the visitors returned the favor Tuesday night at American Family Field. Atlanta kept the Brewers off the board in a 3-0 victory. Starter Tucker Davidson and four relievers allowed just five hits. The Brewers had some chances but never got a key hit. Adrian Houser responded from a couple of rough outings by going 6 innings, allowing just four hits and one run, that was unearned thanks to an error by third baseman Mike Brosseau in the top of the fifth. Marcel Ozuna finished off the Atlanta scoring with a two run homer off Brad Boxberger in the top of the 8th. Hunter Renfro had two of the five hits in the loss. Milwaukee drops to 23-14 on the season and will send Corbin Burnes to the mound against Max Fried in the rubber game of the series Wednesday afternoon. Pre-game coverage begins at 11:35 AM with a 12:10 PM first pitch on WNFL.
Major League Baseball handed down an 80 game suspension to Milwaukee relief pitcher J.C. Mejia on Tuesday. He had just been called up from the minors and appeared in two games for Milwaukee before testing positive for the steroid Stanozolol. He’s the second Brewer to be suspended this year. Catcher Pedro Severino was given an 80 game suspension for violating the league’s Joint Drug Treatment and Prevention Program just before the season began. Milwaukee called up Trevor Kelly from AAA Nashville to take Mejia’s roster spot.
