GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Cases of COVID-19 have been rising in Wisconsin over the last couple of weeks.
But doctors say it’s not a reason to panic.
Dr. Brad Burmeister of Bellin Health tells FOX 11 we’ll continue to see ups and downs when it comes to waves of cases.
“We knew this was something that could only be slowed.”
He says many have ways to combat the virus, through a number of methods.
“I think we have more and more people who for whatever reason. Through either natural infection or being vaccinated have some degree of immunity to this. So over time, we’re getting to a better and better place.”
In Northeast Wisconsin, Brown County has moved into the medium category when it comes to community spread.
In Green Bay, that’s not a surprise to Brian Berheyden.
“I think cases are always going to be coming in.”
He says he’s had some co-workers come down with the virus even just a couple of weeks ago.
Still, he tells FOX 11 through preventative measures like being vaccinated, his concern level with rising cases is low.
“I don’t know how many people got their second shots or even third now. I’ve gotten mine. People go by age, but I don’t think age has anything to do with it, I think you should get all your booster shots. That’s what I would do.”
While Burmeister agrees, he says with increased disease activity, some should take increased precautions.
“People who are at high risk for disease, maybe a little bit older or are immunocompromised. Should consider masking more than they had previously, and people who are around those people.”
Burmeister says he doesn’t think we’ll see another significant surge like we saw last winter.
