GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay District sent an email to parents Friday morning regarding the hot and humid weather.
The district responded to parents questioning the use of air conditioning in buildings.
The district says it’s been running the chillers until 8 a.m. to cool the buildings.
It then turns them off from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., which it says are Wisconsin Public Service’s peak energy hours. The chillers are then turned on again at 1 p.m.
Here’s more from the email.
The Board of Education has an Energy Policy. In the 733 – Rule, it states “Classroom thermostats will be set at 68 degrees for heating and 76 degrees for cooling during the occupied times. For unoccupied times, heating will be set at 55 degrees and cooling will not occur.”
We have encouraged our staff to keep windows, doors and blinds closed to help with keeping the buildings cooler. They have been asked to contact the building engineer if they feel their classroom is warmer than 76 degrees.
The Facilities Department is able to monitor building and classroom temperatures, and will turn the chillers on if classrooms are warmer than the Board approved 76 degrees.
