DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) – A firefighter received minor burns while battling a garage fire in De Pere on Friday.
Crews were dispatched at 6:55 p.m. to a two-story home on the 700 block of South Sixth Street. They arrived to find the garage in flames.
A witness told first responders a wood burning heating unit caused the fire. It caused an estimated $50,000 worth of damage. The garage is a total loss.
The firefighter who was injured was treated on scene and released. No one else was hurt. Everyone in the home got out safely before crews arrived.
Firefighters say they put out the fire very quickly and were able to prevent the fire from spreading into the house. However, the fire damaged the outside of the home, and a vehicle inside the garage was lost.
Fire units were on scene for about three hours. Departments from Lawrence, Ashwaubenon, Hobart and County Rescue assisted De Pere.
