SHEBOYGAN FALLS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The woman accused of killing her eight-year-old son in Sheboygan County appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday.
Natalia Hitchcock faces one count of first-degree intentional homicide and a charge of attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
Her son, Oliver, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital Saturday after he was allegedly attacked by mother on March 30. Sheboygan Falls police called it a strangulation.
As she was led out of the courtroom Tuesday, she turned to someone in the crowd and said, through tears, “I’m so, so sorry, I don’t know what happened”.
She told police she hadn’t been sleeping and was having “brain fog” and believed her kids were going to be kidnapped.
In a GoFundMe set up by Oliver’s paternal uncle to benefit Oliver’s father and surviving brother, Eric Hitchcock wrote that there was no previous history of aggression or abuse in the family.
“With no history of aggression or abuse, we are left with nothing but questions as to why and how this could happen,” he wrote.
On Monday, the Sheboygan Falls community wore purple in honor of Oliver. The district also has extra counselors on hand to help anyone who is working to process what took place.
