After missing Monday night’s game against Portland with ankle soreness, Giannis Antetokounmpo returned to the floor Tuesday night against the Indiana Pacers and the ankle was no problem. The Greek Freak piled up 50 points in Milwaukee’s 128-119 victory. It’s just two points away from the 2 time MVP’s career high. He hit 17 of 21 shots from the floor and knocked down 14 free throws while adding 14 rebounds in the spectacular effort. Khris Middleton added 19 and Jrue Holiday put up 14 with 8 assists. The Bucks improved to 36-23 on the season, good for third place in the NBA’s Eastern Conference race, just a half game behind co-leaders Miami and Chicago.
The game also marked the homecoming for a pair of players who made their mark in Wisconsin. Former Oshkosh North High School star Tyrese Haliburton, acquired in a trade deadline deal with Sacramento, scored 17 points for the Pacers and former UW Green Bay standout Kiefer Sykes put up 10 points with five assists. Buddy Hield led Indiana with 36 as they fell to 19-40.
The Bucks are expected to sign veteran guard DeAndre Bembry to a contract for the rest of the season. The 27 year old was released last week by the Brooklyn Nets who had no room on the roster for him after the multi-player deal which sent James Harden to Philadelphia in exchange for Ben Simmons, Seth Curry and DeAndre Drummond. Bembry was a former number one pick of the Atlanta Hawks who played his first two NBA seasons under then Hawks Head Coach Mike Budenholzer.
