A two game broom swept both ways for the Green Bay Phoenix men’s and women’s basketball teams over the weekend. The Phoenix women parlayed their double overtime upset of Horizon League leading Youngstown State Thursday night with a 57-41 victory over Robert Morris at the Kress Center on Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix raced out to a 21-3 lead after the first quarter and were never headed. Hailey Oskey led the scoring with 10 as Green Bay ran it’s winning streak to five straight. They stand 12-5 on the year, 8-3 in the Horizon League and look to make it six in a row when they host in-state rival UW-Milwaukee at the Kress Monday night at 7:00 PM.
The Green Bay men on the other hand, caught the wrong side of the broom on the road. GB fell to conference leading Cleveland State 85-69 on Friday night. Nate Jenkins put up a career high 19 points in the loss. On Sunday, the Phoenix dropped to 0-10 on the road for the year in losing to Purdue-Fort Wayne 71-55. GB trailed by just four at the break but faded in the second half, giving up 50 points in the paint. Cade Meyer led with 13 while Emmanuel Ansong scored 10. GB falls to 4-18 on the season, 3-10 in Horizon League play but they’ll return home to host Wright State at the Resch Center Wednesday night.
