ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) — The State of Wisconsin has awarded a multi-million dollar grant to Discover Green Bay to go towards the construction of a new visitor’s center.
Governor Tony Evers was on hand Wednesday to present the check.
“He came this morning to give us a grant for $2.5 million,” said Discover Green Bay President Brad Toll. “That brings us pretty much to the finish line in the fundraising area.”
Toll says the center will help keep visitors in the area, and alleviate what the consultants call “FOMO”.
“There’s always that fear of missing out,” Toll says. “This will be a place to go where locals can tell you about the old fashioned, the fish fries, and the booyah that Yelp can’t necessarily tell you.”
They’ve been fundraising for the center for years.
There’s so far no concrete timeline for when the center will be complete, but Toll says they hope to have bidding underway for contractors sometime this spring.
The $6.5 million Experience Greater Green Bay Visitor Center will be located near Interstate 41 and Lombardi Avenue.
