MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A local Republican state lawmaker is drawing criticism after a video reportedly shows him telling constituents that Republicans need to “cheat like the Democrats or bend the rules” to win upcoming elections – among other comments.
In the video, which appears to have been taken secretly by visitors to Rep. Elijah Behnke’s (R-Oconto) Capitol office, he disparages Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos as a “swamp creature” and supports allegations that the 2020 election was stolen.
He also says in the video that if he ever sees Governor Tony Evers in person, he’s going to punch him.
Rep. Behnke declined to comment when contacted by WTAQ on Friday.
