MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Manitowoc County woman has been charged with election fraud because she voted in the November 2020 presidential election, but was allegedly ineligible to do so because she was still on probation.
Lisa Campion, 58, is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Feb. 28. Charges were filed Tuesday.
According to the criminal complaint, an audit by the Wisconsin Elections Commission matched the Campion’s name and birthday from voting records to a list of offenders who were still under supervision by the Department of Corrections at the time of the election.
Campion allegedly mistakenly voted in the town of Two Rivers, even though the address she provided was in the town Kossuth. As a result, Two Rivers officials would not have had access to the Kossuth felon list.
Campion had signed the “voter ineligibility notice and acknowledgement” in 2017, the complaint states.
The complaint offers no comment from Campion, other than she admitted to voting and “she indicated whatever address she had written down at the time of voting, that is where she was living.”
Conviction of the Class I felony – the least severe felony under Wisconsin law – has a maximum penalty of three years, six months in prison, and a $10,000 fine.
Campion was on probation for drunk driving conviction at the time, court records show.
