GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Five people are out in the cold after fire overtook a garage attached to an apartment building on Green Bay’s east side.
Crews were called to the six-unit building at 2612 University Ave. shortly after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Upon arrival, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in about 10 minutes, preventing it from entering the main portion of the building.
The fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage. Smoke damage left two units uninhabitable, resulting in the displacement of the five residents. The Red Cross was assisting those displaced, according to firefighters.
No one was hurt, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
