NEOPIT, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A logging contractor died as a result of a work accident Tuesday afternoon on the Menominee Indian Reservation.
Around 4 p.m., a logging crew working near the Upper Bass Lake Road area requested help for an injured sawyer.
Upon arrival, emergency crews found a deceased 62-year-old man. It was believed a widow maker limb fell from a nearby tree and struck him.
“Our hearts go out to the family of the sawyer we lost today,” Menominee Tribal Enterprises President Jonathan Wilber said in a news release. “Each day, despite the dangers that they know exist, our loggers put on their safety gear and head into the woods to do a job they love. When accidents like this occur we are all reminded of how dangerous the jobs of our loggers are. We are also reminded of how important each of them are to their own families and to our larger family here at Menominee Tribal Enterprises.”
Menominee Tribal Enterprises says the contractor was trained and experienced. He worked on the reservation for more than two years.
