GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Manufacturers in Wisconsin say that demand for their products is high.
But they can’t keep up with the increase in orders.
Kondrath Kais has been a business development manager with Sulzer Machine and Manufacturing for the last 7 years.
He says the ongoing supply chain crisis makes the company carry out anything but business as usual.
“We really have to be specific with lead times. Because the one thing you don’t want to do is disappoint a customer,” said Kais. “It’s telling them one thing your standard lead time is 6 to 8 weeks, now you’re moving to 12 to 16 and it’s because of those reasons.”
Matt Stuck, a manager for business development at Doig Corporation, says that the backup of ships in California is also causing delays in getting and distributing products.
“We saw them not being able to come through the ports on every product,” said Stuck. “Anything with electronics or semi conductors, that’s a big problem right now, whether it’s a small part or a large part.”
Both Stuck and Kais see these issues continuing in manufacturing for another year.
Supply chain issues aren’t the only thing impacting manufacturers right now.
Hiring new employees is also a problem.
Just ask Chase Clover, an instructor at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.
“It’s the employment and getting people into the workforce and getting trained and getting them going is kind of the issue right now,” said Stuck. “So we’re trying to get kids exposed right now and get them on the right path to having a good career.”
Adding more people starting jobs in the industry will help alleviate some of the strains in creating and distributing products.
