APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin Lawmakers are offering their perspectives on the global supply chain problems that have caused shortages and headaches across every sector of the economy.
Democratic US Senator Tammy Baldwin says the US should be less reliant on foreign goods.
“We cannot be dependent upon other nations when there is a global demand for something,” Baldwin said. “We need to re-shore a lot of those businesses, and that’s what the goal of U.S. Innovation and Competition Act is, and we just got to get the House to pass it, and we’ll be off and running.”
Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher cited the energy crisis and the Biden Administration trying to forge international climate change agreements with the Chinese Communist Party.
“Any agreement we sign with the CCP is not gonna be worth the paper it’s printed on, and so the Biden Administration is deluding themselves to think that that should be the overarching issue for U.S. foreign policy, and it’s having very destructive costs here domestically, economically, as well,” he said.
In an effort to fix some supply chain problems, President Joe Biden announced this week that the Port of Los Angeles would work around the clock to clean a huge backlog of shipping containers and cargo ships that have built up over several months.
The two both attended an event in the Fox Valley on Friday.
