GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A donation from a major Green Bay employer to the City of Green Bay was announced Friday.
JBS donated $500,000 and nearly 26 acres of land to the city through the company’s Hometown Strong initiative.
The parcel of land, located across from JBS’ facility on Lime Kiln Road, will be developed to address housing issues in the area.
The project will feature affordable housing for all types of incomes, a playground, community garden and an outdoor gathering space.
“Long story short, this is very exciting for us, as the city of Green Bay, this is a unique opportunity as a community that’s by and large, landlocked, you know, we don’t have a lot of room to grow, so it’s very important for us when we can, to identify development opportunities within our boundaries,” Green Bay mayor, Eric Genrich said during Friday’s check presentation.
Genrich says city officials will begin developing plans within the next month.
He says the public will also have the opportunity to weigh in on the plans.
