GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — More charges were added Wednesday against a woman accused of stealing from the people whose money she was managing.
Theresa Lasee was charged with three counts of felony theft. An initial court appearance was expected Wednesday afternoon.
These counts are in addition to other charges earlier this year with three other victims, allegedly totaling more than $200,000 in fraud.
For the new cases filed Wednesday, the complaint follows a similar pattern of allegations as the earlier cases. All three of the new counts involve on family: two brothers and their mother.
The first victim is a man that Lasee worked for before selling his business. Lasee managed the books, but allegedly wrote checks for personal use, and accessed cash from life insurance policies. Based on the count charged, Lasee allegedly took more than $100,000 from him.
The second victim is a 71-year-old man, who wrote five checks to Lasee for insurance.
Lasee collected the money “representing that the money would be applied towards a policy for him. It was determined that Lasee used this money to pay for her personal mortgage. The loss was determined to be $8,208.00,” the complaint states.
The third victim is the 92-year-old mother of the first two men.
In that case, Lasee “is alleged to have accessed (the woman’)s insurance/investment accounts that she assisted in generating/maintaining on her behalf and without her knowledge and consent, used proceeds from these accounts to be dispersed to a financial account belonging to (her 71-year-old son) that she had access and control over and that was subsequently and incrementally drained by her. The loss was determined to be $7,528.37,” the complaint states. “Specifically, Theresa Lasee accepted payments from (a victim) under false pretenses of applying them to what he believed to be a purchase of a policy on his behalf, when in reality the money was determined to have been used for Theresa Lasee’s personal expenses, her mortgage payments.”
Additional charges may be forthcoming, as the Brown County sheriff’s department originally requested more than 60 charges be filed.
