GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The City of Green Bay is asking residents what it should do with the money it’s getting through the American Rescue Plan Act.
It’s a lot of money, too.
“We’ve been allocated 23.7 million as a result of the American Rescue Plan Act,” Mayor Eric Genrich told WTAQ. “We’re receiving those funds in two pieces. Half has already been received, and the other half will be received next year.”
There are rules, however, for the use of that money.
“Some of the big categories involve addressing the negative economic impacts associated with COVID-19 and making sure that these funds are targeted towards those who have suffered most,” Genrich explained. “There are also some broader infrastructure categories, for us that would be stormwater and drinking water.”
An online survey has been launched, which you can access on the city’s website. There will be two budget town hall meetings held in October where residents can weigh in.
As for any concerns about holding those meetings in an era where public meetings around COVID-19 concerns have been particularly contentious, Genrich says he expects these meetings won’t meet the same fate.
“I don’t have any of those concerns,” said Genrich. “I expect people in the community to act respectfully and kindly towards one another.”
