APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new event is happening in Appleton this weekend.
“We have a whole weekend here of music and dance and fun,” Irish Fest of the Fox Cities executive director Matt Miller said.
After almost three years of planning, Irish Fest of the Fox Cities is making its debut.
“We tried to launch the event last year but as you know nothing happened last year and so it all came together this year,” Miller said.
Miller says the goal is to make the event fun, safe, and educational.
“We are doing everything we can to mitigate any spread of the virus. Obviously being outside helps a lot. We do have signage, we are encouraging people to social distance, as much as possible. We are providing complimentary masks to anyone who wishes for them. We have hand sanitizers spread out throughout the event,” Miller said,
Due to the coronavirus, the festival also had to navigate around travel bans for some international groups.
“We were really nervous about getting our band from Scotland in. They were able to get a national exception and bypass the travel ban,” Miller said,
“We’re delighted to be able to come back in the US after the coronavirus,” Skerryvore band member Scott Wood said.
Wood says one of the best things about festivals like this one is the reaction from the crowd.
“Because they’re getting to see authentic Scottish music and dance around and have a great time with their friends and just have a good party,” Wood said.
