GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Ryder Cup, the biennial team golf tournament between American and European teams, is coming to Sheboygan later this month.
The economic benefit of the event is expected to have a wide impact, as the Sheboygan area doesn’t have enough hotel rooms for the event.
“It’s a huge event,” said Brad Toll, the CEO of Discover Green Bay. “And not a huge inventory of rooms down in that area. So it does push toward Milwaukee but also up toward us.”
A number of national media members are going to be staying in Green Bay and several hotel blocks have been reserved locally for those attending.
Travel restrictions are likely make the impact less than it otherwise would have been without COVID-19.
“Because of some of the COVID restrictions the international crowd will likely not be as big as it would have been,” said Toll.
Toll says the precise economic impact of the event on the Green Bay area, as the impact is expected to be widespread.
The Ryder Cup was supposed to come to Sheboygan last year but was postponed due to the pandemic.
