APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A suspect who allegedly tried to stab two Grand Chute police officers will remain at a state psychiatric facility for treatment.
Liam Donaldson was found guilty of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, but then found not guilty by reason of mental disease. He was committed to a secure facility for mental health treatment in August, 2020.
Monday’s hearing was on a defense request for Donaldson to be granted supervised, conditional release. After reviewing a psychiatrist’s report, Outagamie County Judge Mitchell Metropulos denied the request.
No future review date was scheduled.
At the time of the incident, Donaldson identified as female and charged under the first name of Cheetiya, but has since transitioned to identify as male, his attorney said Monday.
Donaldson was arrested after officers responded to a Spencer Street home on Feb. 2, 2019, at the request of Donaldson’s parents, who said he was out of control. When the first officer approached Donaldson, he lunged at him with a knife, hitting his chest by his radio and body camera. Donaldson tried again, but he stepped out of the way. Later, officers found him in the basement, and he tried to stab another officer in the head. The officer used a shield to protect himself. The knife was deflected away, and he was taken into custody, the complaint states.
