MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An Oconto man was sentenced to 19 years in prison for delivery drugs, leading to a fatal overdose.
Brian Blasing was convicted of first degree reckless homicide in May for delivering fentanyl which resulted in the February 2019 death of Terry Westphal in the town of Pound.
Blasing was also convicted at the same trial of delivery of cocaine that occurred in January of 2019 in the town of Peshtigo.
At sentencing, District Attorney DeShea Morrow said Blasing had reckless disregard for life because he continued to deliver drugs even though he knew that the drugs could be potent enough to kill. District Attorney Morrow told the court that Blasing continued to reach out to the source of the drugs that killed Westphal event after Blasing knew of Westphal’s death.
Blasing’s co-defendant Chasity Denny, entered pleas to delivery of schedule II narcotics and delivery of cocaine, both as a party to a crime. She was sentenced to a total of six years of initial confinement and 10 years of extended supervision.
