GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Volunteers from across Wisconsin and even some from the local area are deployed across the country to deal with a number of ongoing natural disasters.
Laura McGuire is with the Red Cross says the situation in Louisiana, hit by Hurricane Ida, is critical.
“Some areas are so uninhabitable right now that people can’t even get in, says McGuire.
Several volunteers from Madison and Wausau are in Louisiana and Mississippi working on relief efforts. Several more, including at least one volunteer from Northeast Wisconsin, are out fighting wildfires in the west.
“We have eight individuals deployed out in Sacramento and also Spokane, Washington, to deal with the wildfires,” McGuire told WTAQ.
McGuire says the group is working to provide basic necessities such as food and shelter for those displaced by the disasters.
The group is still in need of additional volunteers.
