OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – It bills itself as a one-stop shop for those interested in ducks, and geese and the outdoors.
The very first Waterfowl Hunters Expo is Saturday in Oshkosh.
Inside the Sunnyview Expo Center, crews were busy Friday morning, setting up booths ahead of Saturday’s event.
“We’re super excited about the opportunity to bring people out and show them all about the waterfowl hunting lifestyle,” said Don Kirby, Waterfowl Hunters Expo Marketing Committee.
Organizer Don Kirby says the expo features 65 vendors, and seminars from the experts.
“Whether it’s from folks from the DNR, scientists, and biologists, or dog trainers or expert hunters, and guides that can provide tips and tricks and techniques that will help almost anybody get better, or to get started in the sport wherever they’re at,” he said.
There will be a dog demonstration area too.
“We’ll have a fastest retriever competition, that people can bring their dogs and participate in,” said Kirby.
“So bring your dog. But you should also bring your family. We have kid-friendly events. Ducks Unlimited is hosting a youth zone. So we’ll have ducklings out there. They can get up close and personal with as well as learn a little bit more about wetlands, and the things that inhabit them,” said Bruce Ross, Waterfowl Hunters Expo Steering Committee Chairman.
Organizer Bruce Ross says waterfowl hunting is a rich Wisconsin tradition, and the early seasons for teal and Canada goose begin September 1.
“The timing couldn’t be any better for something like this. If you’re a waterfowler, that itch is beginning to build. This is an opportunity to scratch it, and prepare for the season,” he said.
The Waterfowl Hunters Expo runs Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
