DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Not all students in the Unified School District of De Pere will be required to wear face masks to begin the 2021-22 academic year.
During its meeting Wednesday night, the district’s board voted to require masks for students in grades 4K-six. Masks are strongly encouraged for grades seven-12.
The district previously made masks optional for all students.
Board member Dan Van Starten tells FOX 11s they reviewed public feedback before making their decision.
“We wanted to sit down and review everything again before we start the school year next week. We wanted to really lean on the medical community. They’re the experts. We aren’t.”
The board plans to review the policy for both groups on a monthly basis.
