GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Prevea Health is offering COVID-19 booster shots for those who are immunocompromised.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the shots for those with weak immune systems last week. Prevea is offering boosters to those who:
- Have been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
- Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Have a moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
- Have advanced or untreated HIV infection
- A receiving active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids (?20mg prednisone or equivalent per day), alkylating agents, antimetabolites, transplant-related immunosuppressive drugs, cancer chemotherapeutic agents classified as severely immunosuppressive, tumor-necrosis (TNF) blockers, and other biologic agents that are immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory
Booster shots can be administered at least 28 days after a second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.
Prevea points out that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not recommend additional doses for those who are not immunocompromised. There is also no recommendation for those who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to receive a second shot.
