OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Face masks will be required in Oshkosh schools after all.
The district’s announcement Friday came two weeks after it released a plan that did not include a face mask requirement to begin the year.
In a video message, superintendent Bryan Davis said the district had been hoping low COVID-19 numbers in July would continue. That has not been the case, however.
“Over the last three weeks, we’ve had some significant increases to our COVID numbers, specifically for our under-18 demographic, and we anticipate that number to rise through mid-September,” Davis said.
Schools are set to begin in-person, with remote learning offered through the district’s eAcademy.
The district’s mask requirement covers students, staff and visitors. It begins on Monday and is set to expire Oct. 1.
The city of Oshkosh and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh have similar mask requirements in buildings.
The Oshkosh school district is also encouraging eligible people to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. Find vaccine clinic locations in Winnebago County here.
