GREEN BAY, WI (METRO) – Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is revealing he considered retirement as his off-season standoff with the team management dragged on.
However, Rodgers told reporters Wednesday he still has a “big, competitive hole” in his body. The reigning NFL MVP took part in the team’s first workout of training camp and then met with the media.
Rodgers elaborated on his dispute with the team that was the subject of much speculation in recent months. He said he wanted to help the Packers learn from previous mistakes they made.
Rodgers explained that involved not keeping who he described as “high character guys” like Charles Woodson and Jordy Nelson.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst described the relationship with Rodgers as “professional.”
Rodgers threw for a league-high 48 touchdown passes with only five interceptions last season while helping the Packers lead the league in scoring. He led the NFL in passer rating and completion percentage.
