MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin’s seven-day average of new confirmed coronavirus infections is up 50% in the past week.
Wisconsin Department of Health Services data shows the seven-day average at 149 as of Friday, up from 99 a week earlier. There were 197 positive tests on Thursday. The seven-day average of positive test percentage was at 1.8%.
No new deaths were reported on Thursday, dropping the seven-day average to one.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 614,596 confirmed cases and 7,372 deaths linked to COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.
This week’s update shows 101 confirmed cases of the more contagious delta variant that has health officials concerned. Those cases represent .6% of the 16,447 samples tested, though DHS officials have cautioned that results take several weeks to process.
Total vaccinations reached 51% of the population (2,968,247 people) having received at least one dose, and 48.6% (2,830,630) having completed their vaccine series.
Overall hospitalizations were up slightly on Friday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 98 COVID-19 patients, five more than on Thursday and 23 more than a week earlier. Of those, 28 were in intensive care, down three in a day and flat over a week.
In the Northeast region, there were eight COVID-19 patients, up two over both a day and a week. Two of those were in ICUs, the same as a day and a week earlier. Fox Valley region hospitals had four COVID-19 patients, up one in a day and four over a week. As has been the case since June 27, none were in intensive care.
