NEW LONDON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The School District of New London says it’s trying to ease the financial burden for students and families this upcoming school year.
“I know that last year it was really difficult for many families so I know that it will make a difference for some,” Casey Schuler has three kids in the School District of New London.
Schuler appreciates the school board’s recent decision to waive select fees for students and families for the upcoming academic year.
“Our traditional back to school enrollment forms and registration fees will be waived for grades 4k through grade 12 so families will see a waived fee depending if it’s one child or multiple children within the household,” said District Administrator, Scott Bleck.
Bleck tells FOX 11 students and families that have kids in Four-year-old Kindergarten would save about $22 on enrollment fees. Kindergarten through eighth up to $45 and high schoolers, about $60 per child.
Students would also save on activity fees that are $60 per co-curricular.
“Student workbook and textbook fees will be waived throughout the year, and students have interest in participating in co-curriculars whether it be athletics, fine arts clubs, we’ll have the fee waived.”
Activity Season Passes to attend events, single game or activity fees and parking permit fees will also be waived.
“In past years we would anticipate an added revenue from this process, so we have a prediction of what that would be annually, and through our budget development this year we would not anticipate that revenue.”
Bleck says the budgeting is no problem, especially if it entices families to join them in the School District of New London.
“I think it’s a good thing it’s certainly going to benefit the low income, say free lunch reduced lunch students,” said Corey Knepfel.
Knepfel says he doesn’t have kids in the district, but likes seeing the city taking steps to help families out.
The Green Bay Area Public School District says it is also waiving some fees for the upcoming school year, including: instrument rental, general student, and commencement ceremony fees.
