(WNFL/LEARFIELD) – The Milwaukee Brewers managed a split of their doubleheader with the New York Mets on Wednesday, losing the opener 4-3 in extra innings and winning the nightcap 5-0.
The opener featured a match-up between premier pitchers Jacob DeGrom for the Mets and the Brewers’ Corbin Burnes who talked about squaring off against him.
Brewers manager Craig Counsell said it was a good pitching dual.
Brent Suter took the loss in the opener, giving up a pair of runs in the eighth inning.
In the second game, Brett Anderson, Jake Cousins, Brad Boxberger and Hunter Strickland combined to hold the Mets to 3 hits.
Anderson who pitched 4 shutout innings said it was good to get on the hill after 2 weeks.
The Brewers return home to open the first of 7 games against the Cincinnati Reds – 4 games at American Family Field and then after the All-Star Break, 3 games in Cincinnati.
