OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Cade Wied was sentenced Tuesday to 13 years in prison for the traffic crash which killed one of his passengers.
A jury previously convicted Wied, 20, of second-degree reckless homicide and several other charges for the December 2018 crash in Abrams which killed September Deneys and injured another person.
Wied also placed on extended supervision for nine years by Judge Michael Judge.
According to the criminal complaint, the vehicle left the roadway and struck two trees before coming to rest. Wied says he was driving about 55 mph, but the speed limit in that area was 45 mph. Data recovered from the car showed it was travelling at about 88 mph.
The night of the crash, Wied admitted he was driving. But in an interview a few days later, Wied claimed the girl who died was really the driver. Another passenger, however, says Wied was driving, according to the complaint.
