MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A long-awaited plan to build a new visitors center in the Green Bay area is getting a boost from the state Legislature.
The Assembly on Tuesday approved a $2 million interest-free loan to the Greater Green Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau to help build the center. The bill now goes to the state Senate.
CVB President Brad Toll says he’s hopeful it will pass.
“The governor’s been very supportive of it,” Toll told WTAQ. “Really, both sides of the aisle have been supportive of it. only discussion really is how we get there.”
The CVB announced plans for the $6.5 million Experience Greater Green Bay Visitor Center near Interstate 41 and Lombardi Avenue in 2018. Toll says they’ve already raised $4 million in addition to the loan, and says the loan would allow them to start construction.
Aid was expected to be included in the 2019-21 state budget, but it was removed.
