GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay Packers’ success last season means more trees are being planted in 2021.
It marks another successful year of the First Downs for Trees program. This year, 411 trees were donated to 16 local communities — one for every first down the Packers made in the 2020-21 NFL season.
Since 2011, more than 5,500 trees have been planted through the program.
“It’s kind of a nice tie-in: the better our offense does, the more trees we plant and I think it’s really significant here in Titletown, it’s something that we’re building for the community, and it’s just great to have so many trees around here,” Packers president/CEO Mark Murphy said.
Meacham Nursery and Leaves Inspired provided this year’s trees.
Elm, maple, lilac, oak, honey locust and flowering crab trees are among the planted species.
