MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Construction is underway for a new ammunition manufacturing plant in Manitowoc.
Ammo Inc. hopes to make the plant on Custer Street a cornerstone of its business.
Company leadership was in attendance at Monday’s groundbreaking, including two former NASCAR racers, Rusty Wallace and Richard Childress. They are both on the company’s board.
Manitowoc city leaders participated as well. They hope the new plant can help boost the city’s economy.
“This is a good day in the city of Manitowoc,” Mayor Justin Nickel said. “We’ve got a workforce that none other can compete with. That’s the real reason we’re here today, but it’s our community as a whole.”
Officials say they hope the plant will expand their Manitiowoc workforce by 100 or more employees.
The facility is expected to be fully operational next summer.
