GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — After a one year hiatus, Fire over the Fox will make its return to downtown Green Bay.
“It’s refreshing to be able to have the fireworks this year and to be able to actually have some sort of an event,” On Broadway Inc. special events director Allie Thut said.
The event, which typically features a fireworks show, as well as food vendors and entertainment was canceled last year due to the pandemic.
Thut says in a normal year, the event typically features about 30 to 40 different vendors.
This year’s event will look a bit different.
“The event this year will be shortened. It’s starting at 5 p.m., we’re inviting the public to come down versus 1 p.m. like in previous years,” Thut said.
It will have one stage, a beer tent, as well as a handful of vendors and a VIP seating area.
Band members of Johnny Wad are excited to return to Fire over the Fox.
The band has been playing the event for over 20 years.
“We normally do 100 shows a year. We maybe were able to do 20 last year, and Leicht Park is one of the highlights of the year, 4th of July. It’s going to be awesome,” Johnny Wad guitarist and singer Christopher Dame said.
Over at Hagemeister Park, manager Helen Miller says 4th of July is one of the restaurant’s busiest days.
“We know there’s not a whole lot happening on this side of the river, so we’re kind of hoping to be the main hub for the east side of the river for the 4th,” Miller said.
Miller says they’re expecting a busy 4th this year as well.
” Years past it’s been wonderful, there’s been a lot of vendors and stuff and this year we’re probably anticipating a little bit more food sales because there won’t be as many food trucks and as many vendors,” Miller said.
