OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) — The organizers of EAA Airventure say that next month’s event will look a lot like the last event that took place before COVID-19.
EAA Spokesman Dick Knapinski says they’re working with health officials to keep people as safe as possible.
“A lot of things will look normal, or remind people of 2019, however we still have to be cognizant,” Knapinski told WTAQ. “We’re working with health officials to make sure that guests, volunteers, exhibitors, everybody else stays safe.”
Masks will be recommended, but not required, for those who aren’t vaccinated. What you shouldn’t expect, however, is any kind of heavy-handed protocol enforcement.
“You might be looking at an aircraft cockpit, or you might be in rather tight quarters, then you’re free to put the mask on,” Knapinski said. “We’re not going to judge. We’re not going to make those decisions. We’re not going to be the mask police.”
During the annual show, Whitman Regional Airport becomes the busiest airport in the world, with planes landing at the airport every 20 seconds during peak times. This year’s show will be held from July 26th to August 1st.
