MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A new kind of fire truck, built in Appleton, is now being used in Madison.
The Madison Fire Department announced it now has the first-of-its-kind electric fire truck in service.
The truck was developed by both Appleton’s Pierce Manufacturing and its parent company, Oshkosh Corporation.
Officials say it’ll reduce emissions, minimize fuel consumption and make less noise.
Madison Fire Chief Steven Daniels says it’ll allow the city to continue its “green” focus without sacrificing fire-fighting procedures.
“Here in Madison, we have to be 100% renewable and sustainable by 2030, and we can’t get there without a partner like Pierce Manufacturing and Oshkosh Corporation.”
The new truck has been part of the department since late May and has already been on a few calls.
