FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – People in Northeast Wisconsin are finding ways to beat the heat this week.
The Spaulding family came to Taylor Park Pool to cool off.
But plans changed since the Fond Du Lac pool won’t open until Saturday, June 12.
“Going to go over to the Lakeside park and see if the splash pad is open and maybe set up a kiddy pool in the backyard,” said the Spaulding’s.
Kelly Hare and her granddaughter Abby Compton were at the Lakeside Park Splash Pad to take cover from the sun.
They have plenty of plans to stay cool this summer.
“Get wet, and go into the sprinklers, or even go to the pool,” said Hare.
And the Popp’s splashed around too.
“Getting wet and playing with other people,” said one Popp brother.
The weather in Northeast Wisconsin is not cooling off anytime soon.
Fond Du Lac pool supervisor, Wendy Petak says the city is only opening one of the two outdoor pools at a time this summer — because of a lifeguard shortage.
“In the months of June and August is when we see the biggest lifeguard shortage with people finishing high school finishing college and again in fall starting fall sports going back to college,” said Petak.
Fond Du Lac city pools are rotating open-swim month to month. Before the Fourth of July and in August swimmers will come here to Taylor Park Pool. The Fairground Family Aquatics Center will be open July 5th for the month.
” July is our busiest month, our hottest month, and the time that we have the most lifeguards available,” said Petak.
“It is what it is but you know but it’s a little frustrating,” Jeff Spaulding says like many others, “We will make the most of it.”
“We’re so excited to have a sense of normalcy back. I mean our pools mean so much to us here in town,” said Petak.
Petak says she’s glad the lifeguard shortage isn’t stopping the community from utilizing both pools this summer.
The Taylor Park Pool will open on Saturday and will remain open every day until July 4th.
