GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Tuesday night was the closest to normal things have been at a Timber Rattlers game in almost two years. Capacity at Fox Cities Stadium is now just under 100%.
From states away, to nearby baseball fans from all over can once again sit shoulder to shoulder at Fox Cities Stadium. Without having to socially distance.
“Every time you come down here you make new friends, people you like to hang out with,” said Lance Olsen from Neenah.
“It’s nice to kind of get back to normal, enjoy things we didn’t get a chance to last year,” said Matt Hudson from Ohio.
Now for fans who still want to watch the game socially distanced, there are two sections reserved just for that. However, few fans chose to sit in the section reserved for social distancing.
“If we can get more people here over the next few weeks and show how safe we’ve been, how safe it can be, and how exciting, that too will just keep building on itself throughout the summer,” said Chris Mehring, the Timber Rattlers media coordinator.
For the first month of games, capacity was about 35%. But with updated CDC guidelines for vaccinated people, Mehring tells FOX 11 the Timber Rattlers bumped up the number of fans allowed beginning this month. Masking is also optional.
“June works the best we got the first few out of the way, I think with the vaccinations up and the way things are trending we are very confident to be able to do this so it just made sense to get things rolling 100% right now.”
Bill Lowney says it’s all good….
“You can hear the crowd roaring, and the players can hear the crowd roaring. And the booing also, don’t forget about the booing.”
Fans sitting in the stands say nothing compares to a stadium with the chance to have just under 5,000 people back.
